Ok so a year is too long to go without blogging. I guess I need to make this more of a priority. I just received my friends new blogspot address and decided I really need to be doing this. Of course a lot has happened in a years time. The kids are growing like weeds and Dave and I are just trying to keep up. We are glad Summer is here and we have a chance to take a break from the schedules and timelines brought by school and winter time.
I am currently serving as the Valient 10-12 yr old girl primary teacher as well as the Wolf Cub Scout Den leader in our ward. I was called to the first calling and I volunteered for the second. I definately love serving and when they couldn't find any one to accept for the Den leader position I said let me at it. Someone's got to do it. It has been a fun experience and I have really enjoyed working with Isaac and the other boys in the Den. This year is my first year to go to daycamp and I am excited to be with Isaac and experience more in his world.
I am also learning a lot from the girls that I teach on Sundays. I didn't have a clue that they could be so random still at this age. They still say the darndest things. A couple of weeks ago we had a lesson about Anti-christs. I brought a fake decorated cake and party supplies to class. It was fast Sunday and I was going to try and lure the girls into breaking their fasts and celebrating my B-day by eating and enjoying the cake I decorated. Of course they were excited that I had actually brought food to class but disappointed that it was Fast Sunday. Try as I might I could not get them to break their fast. One girl eventually decided that she was ok with breaking her Fast. The lesson continued from there and there were many who were thankful they kept their commitment to the Fast. Later when sharg the lesson with a mother of one of the girls in my class she shared with me the significance of her daughter actually keeping her Fast. Our last Bishop's only daughter is dying from cancer, she is only 8 years old. So this specific girl in my class was fasting for her. She had started her fast on Saturday night. Went to bed and then around midnight started throwing up. Her mother said she had completely emptied her stomach and then still continued. After the offering of a blessing the girl said she would be ok and went to bed. When she awoke the next morning she of course was starving but said she would persevere for the Bishops daughter. And she did, a ten year old did what I don't know if I would have the courage to do. Dave has been teaching us(our family) about fasting. He has said prayer is like knocking on Heavenly Father's door; whereas, fasting is pounding with all your might. I definately believe that this specific girl's Fast was heard. I am definately learning a lot and I hope that my girls are too.
Dave is working hard. He is such a good provider and has always worked hard. He is a Realtor for those who don't know, and despite the down turn in the market Dave remains optimistic. He absolutely loves what he does and the builder he works for. He is venturing out and trying some new things. He and I recently framed the unfinished part of our basement. He continues to tinker down stairs and work on the basement. He has always been an avid Basketball player and fan. Of course he is rooting for the Lakers and hopes they can beat Boston. He plays 3-4 times a week in the wee early hours of the morning and dies when he can't. He is currently serving in the Sunday School as the 17-18 year old teacher. He loves it. He loves the youth and the zest they have for life. He is also the Cub Master and is doing an awesome job. I have never had so much fun at Pack Meetings before. He is very creative and full of surprises. You can tell the boys really enjoy having him around.
Isaac finished his third grade class part of top of the class. He loves reading and this year won an award for being in the top ten Nationally for reading. He never has enough books and the Library is probably one of his favorite places to go. He enjoyed playing on a city soccer team last fall and informs us he wants to do it again. He is all about science and experiments as well. If I don't stay close by me kitchen turns into his lab. He is a huge help for me and really cares for his siblings. At least when they are not driving him crazy.
Katie is 7 going on 17. I swear we have already hit the teenage years. She loves fashion, hair, jewelry and anything else that fits in the fashion category. She too had a successful first grade year. She has inherited Dave and I's knack for talking and being social bugs. But she had a great teacher that had healthy boundaries within the class room. She loves being the second mom of the family and I sometimes I am very appreciative of her help and comfort for her siblings.
William is all boy and can't wait to be big. He is now 4 and more determined than ever. At three he wanted to ride his Spiderman bike without training wheels. I put him off for a couple of weeks and when that wasn't working to well I took the training wheels off and he took off. I only had to run next to him two times and he was off. He loves Star Wars and knows more about them than I do. He tells us he wants to be a Jedi when he grows up.
Alexis is growing and has been such a delight. She loves to dance and I think she will be following in her mother's footsteps. Whenever there is music around she starts grooving. She is starting to mumble some words and I think she beats us all for the loudest scream in the Maltby home. She also loves balls and I can't go in the toy section of any store without expecting to chase her and the balls. She will be two in July.
